the space __

“Wisdom means to choose now what will make sense later.

I am learning every day to allow the space between where I am and where I want to be, to inspire me and not terrify me.” Tracee Ellis Ross (Actress and Activist)

When I read this quote, I immediately connected with the words and that terrifying feeling Ms Ross is alluding to --- the feeling that makes you question whether you'll make it to the place in life that you've dreamed about, worked towards, and prayed for. The unknown can certainly be terrifying, but what I don't want is for the unknown to cripple me into a state of stagnation. When we get ideas or have goals, we start off excited and ready to work hard towards them. But just as quickly as excitement comes, excitement can just as easily go. Fears and doubt begin to creep up, quietly but all so suddenly, which make us start to question whether or not we'll finish what we started.

So, let's get into this quote a bit more. The first thing I want to tell you is this -- where you are now and where you want to be, do not have to be in direct conflict with one another. Instead, just as Ms Ross says, that space can serve as a place for inspiration, so let it. Use every day as an opportunity to learn and develop, so that you will grow into the person you need to be to access the life you want. The second thing I want to tell you is this --- where you are right now in life is the right place for you to be to make the most of where you want to go. At times it may feel like you don't have "enough" -- enough time, enough money or enough confidence. But I believe that what you have right now, is enough for you to get started -- you just need to start. If you've read at least one of my posts, you'll know that I am an advocate for taking things one day at a time. Don't be the reason why you don't achieve the things you want because you're waiting to have "enough" of something to get started. The small steps you take today will take you closer to where you want to go. So, once you get going, keep going. What you don't know you can figure out along the way. And do your best to remain consistent. Remember, consistent actions produce consistent results. Not overnight, but over time.

Know also that wisdom is like honey for you: If you find it, there is a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.

Proverbs 24:14

In order to arrive at your desired destination, you have to plan ahead, and planning ahead requires acting now. Use the day you have in front of you to consider how the decisions you make, the books you read, the things you watch and the people you surround yourself with, will affect your ability to arrive where you want to. Wisdom is your friend, so do whatever you need to do to obtain it -- your future depends on it!

The final thing I want to tell you is this -- while you're in the process of not letting the space between where you are and where you want to be terrify you, please, do not under any circumstances, apologise for taking up space in this world!

Space

/speɪs/

1. a continuous area or expanse which is free, available, or unoccupied.

2. the dimensions of height, depth, and width within which all things exist and move.

The person you are right now, the person you hope to become, the dreams you have and the life you want are all things you should never have to apologise for. You were created with purpose. You are here on purpose for a purpose. Take up space in the world and do so proudly. Don't be ashamed. Don't be afraid to make some noise and make a difference. Be bold. Be confident. Be courageous. Let's put worrying about the future behind us. Let's stop worrying about what people think or will think. Let's stop worrying about whether or not we'll "make it", and by this, I mean, arriving at the place in life that you desire. Worrying about what has yet to happen, although a natural feeling, is wasted energy. It's not wise to worry about potential problems. Don't overwhelm yourself by being scared of the unknown. Instead of viewing the glass as half empty, begin to view it as half full. And even if you're not the most optimistic person, what are you going to do today that will change your outlook on life in a more positive way. What will you do to make your cup overflow? If a tree can bloom in spring, thrive in summer, have its leaves change colour in the autumn and fall in the winter, then I'm sure you can do one small thing today that will make a great difference in your life.

So, now's the time for reflection. Where do you want to go? Where do you want to be? Who do you want to be? Take some time to reflect over Ms Ross' words, so that the space between where you are and where you want to be will no longer terrify you, but simply and amazingly, inspire you.
